Mr. Michel Duval

Michel Duval is an internationally renowned leader in the field of dissolved gas analysis (DGA) for condition monitoring of oil-filled power equipment such as high-voltage transformers. Condition monitoring helps prevent service failures and aids power companies in asset management of critical equipment. One of the most reliable techniques for recognizing abnormal behavior in transformers while the equipment is in operation, DGA’s use as a standard method for condition monitoring is largely due to the efforts of Dr. Duval. The “Duval Triangle” method has become an indispensable tool for DGA and is used by hundreds of power utilities, service laboratories, and manufacturers of on-line gas monitors. Dr. Duval also established the typical levels of gas formation observed in various types of electrical equipment and the probability of equipment failure as a function of in-service gas formation. His gas-in-oil standards have been commercialized since 1999 and are used worldwide.  An IEEE Life Fellow, Dr. Duval is currently a senior research scientist with Hydro Quebec Institute of Research in Quebec, Canada.

Mr. Stefan Tenbohlen

Stefan Tenbohlen received his Diploma and Dr.-Ing. degrees from the Technical University of Aachen, Germany, in 1992 and 1997, respectively. 1997 he joined ALSTOM Schorch Transformatoren GmbH, Mönchengladbach, Germany, where he was responsible for basic research and product development. From 2002 to 2004 he was the head of the electrical and mechanical design department. 2004 he was appointed to a professorship and head of the institute of Power Transmission and High Voltage Technology of the University of Stuttgart, Germany. In this position his main research fields are high voltage technique, power transmission and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Prof. Tenbohlen holds several patents and published more than 400 papers. He is member of the IEEE, CIGRE SC A2 (Power Transformers), german CIGRE committees of A2, D1 (Emerging Technologies), C4 (System Technical Performance), several international working groups and the chairman of german Power Engineering Society VDE-ETG FB Q2 (Materials, Electrical Insulations and Diagnostics).

Dr Antun Mikulecky

Antun Mikulecky has 38 years of power transformers research and development experience. His field of expertise are research and development of insulating systems of HV, UHV and HVDC transformers, diagnostic, maintenance and failure analysis of power transformers, including ageing and life expectance, and their bushings in particular. He is member of the CIGRÉ WG A2.37 Transformers reliability; convener of the CIGRÉ WG A2.43: Transformer bushings reliability and lecturer on Postgraduate Specialist Study – Transformers, University of Zagreb (collegiums: "Transformer Diagnostics and Maintenance" and "Electrical Field and Insulation Systems"). Qualifications in Ph.D., M.Sc., B.Sc. Electrical Engineer. He has written more than 100 research reports, various studies and technical instructions, made at request of manufacturers and buyers of transformers and more 50 published papers in the fields of expertise.

Mr. Andreas Nenning

Andreas Nenning has a degree in automation engineering and mechatronics obtained the university of applied science in Dornbirn, Austria. Since September 2013 he has been the product manager of OMICRON's new circuit breaker test set CIBANO 500. He started his professional career with an apprenticeship at the municipal utilities of Feldkirch, Austria. Later he graduated as Master of Science at the University of applied science in Dornbirn, Austria. After that, he spent several years abroad working as an application engineer and project leader before finally returning to Austria working as a product manager in the field of decentralized renewable energy. Andreas is a member of the Cigre Working Group A3.32 (Non-intrusive methods for condition assessment of circuit breakers).

Mr. Brian Sparling

Brian D. Sparling, a Senior Member of IEEE, is a Regional Manager with Dynamic Ratings Inc. Brian has over twenty years of experience in the field of power and distribution transformers. For the last 23 years he has been involved in all aspects of monitoring and diagnostics and condition assessment of power transformers.
He has authored and co-authored more than 20 technical papers on various topics dealing with the monitoring and diagnostics of transformers.
He has worked on many guides and standards with the Canadian Electricity Association, IEEE Transformers Committee and, the CIGRÉ A2 Transformer committee.

Mr. Karl Haubner

Karl Haubner joined Doble Engineering in 2004 and is employed as the High Voltage Test Application Engineer servicing the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to his appointment with Doble Engineering he worked for a Utility in Western Australia. As the Superintendent of the HV Test Laboratory he was responsible for all technical aspects of the test group such as development and introduction of new condition monitoring techniques on distribution, transmission and generating plant.
In addition to his employment with Doble Karl also provides testing and consultancy services to the industry via his company High Voltage Solutions and in Malaysia via GTS Malaysia. He is the author of several technical papers on condition monitoring of HV assets and cable fault location and has delivered short courses on testing techniques at University and Industry level. Karl has a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and is member of Cigre D1 and Australian Standards Committee EL-007.

Mr. Antony Giacomin 

Antony Giacomin is the Sales & Marketing Manager for TJ|H2b Analytical Services based in Melbourne, Australia, and is responsible for activities throughout the Asia-Pacific region. 
Antony received an Honours Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Melbourne in 1992.  He has since acquired over 20 years’ experience in Engineering design, Technical Sales and Marketing, primarily in the fields of Engineering Manufacturing and Technical Services.  
Antony joined TJ|H2b Analytical Services in 2002 and has since helped to establish TJ|H2b as one of the leading Oil testing Laboratories in the Asia Pacific region. Antony has given numerous technical presentations at major events throughout the region, relating to diagnostic testing and condition monitoring of V Equipment.

Dennis Jose L. Gan

Dennis Jose L. Gan is a licensed Professional Electrical Engineer (PEE) with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Graduate Degree in Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Major in Power Systems.

He joined the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) in 1995 where he was involved in Geothermal Power Plant Operation and Maintenance. Following the restructuring of the power industry, he became the Head of the Protection and Secondary Devices Section of South Luzon Operations and Maintenance of the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo).

He joined the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in 2009 and is at present the Head (OIC) of Operation and Maintenance Management Department, the office that leads the formulation of policies and establishment of standards for O&M, and manages the strategic implementation and execution of corporate direction on the technical and operational requirements of the transmission system.

His more than twenty (20) years of experience in the field of electrical engineering provided him an extensive exposure in project management, substation protection, design/commissioning works, and management of operation and maintenance of substation equipment and transmission line facilities.

Cherry B. Banez

Cherry B. Banez is a Registered Electrical Engineer. She received her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2008 and graduated Master in Engineering Program Major in Electrical Engineering in 2010.

She joined Emerson Network Power - Philippines as Electrical Design Engineer from 2008 to 2009 where she was involved in Electromagnetic Interference Emissions and Thermal qualifications.  In 20009, she joined Saint Louis University as a college Instructor teaching Electrical Engineering professional subjects (i.e., Electrical Circuits, Electrical Machines, Electromagnetic, Advanced Electrical Engineering Mathematics, etc.) and supervise Electrical Engineering laboratory subjects. 

Cherry joined National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in 2010 as Substation Engineer in San Rafael Substation, South Central Plain Luzon Area, and then Principal Engineer for Operations and Assets Division, Operation and Maintenance Management Department.  At present, she is the Operational assets Manager for Operations and Assets Division, Operation and Maintenance Management Department.  Responsible to oversee and develop, amend and enhance procedures pertaining to the efficient operation of substation and transmission line facilities.

Mr Perry Tonking (Australia)

Peregrine (Perry) Tonking is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Chartered Engineer UK, member of Engineers Australia and registered on the Australian National Engineers’ Register as a Chartered Professional Engineer. He has almost 25 years of global experience within the Electricity and Water Tranmission and Distribution Industries. During his career, Peregrine has undertaken roles across both government and private sectors in Africa, Europe, Australasia and the Middle East. Peregrine has substantial experience in planning, design, construction, regulation, operation and maintenance of electricity and water networks. He has particular experience in the management of utility assets and has undergone several accreditations of transmission companies toward BS PAS55 and ISO55000. He has led major incident investigations into several major asset failures as well as disaster management and recovery exercises during severe network incidents.

Peregrine has untertaken roles from engineer through to board director and has managed large workforces of up to 1,000 personnel across major utility networks. He has led the establishment of national frameworks for both electrical and mechanical vocations across the Middle East. He has invested significant effort and time into mentorship programmes for the development graduate engineers and technicians. Peregrine holds a B.Eng (Hons) Electrical from the University of Pretoria and also a Masters in Engineering Business Management from Warwick University.

Mr Robert J. Slebodnik (USA) 

Robert J. Slebodnik, born in 1953 in Johnstown, PA USA, received a BSEE from the University of Pittsburgh in 1975 and started working at Allegheny Power, a major electric utility, until merging in 2011 with FirstEnergy (now an electric utility with nearly 17GW capacity, 6M customers and $14.5B revenue). He has worked in engineering and management positions, and is currently Supervisor of Substation Engineering & Design at FirstEnergy responsible to lead design teams on substation projects. His extensive 42 years’ experience is in high voltage transmission substation design, equipment specification, and construction from 12kV up to 765kV. He coordinated the siting of 65 new substations and designed 35 new substations along with numerous substation additions, expansions and upgrades. He implemented systems related to CAD, grounding design, cost estimating and project management. He instructed power engineering courses for Penn State University’s Advanced School in Power Engineering and Allegheny Power’s Training Center. He has authored, published and presented substation design papers to utility industry groups.


He has been a Licensed Professional Engineer since 1986. He has been an IEEE member since 1989, belongs to its Power & Energy Society, was elected to Senior Member in 2007, and is active in IEEE’s Pittsburgh Section. He has been an individual member of CIGRE since 2011 and a full member of WG No. B3.43 since 2015.

Sergio2   Mr Sergio Feitoza Costa (Brazil)

Sergio Feitoza is an electrical engineer, M.Sc. and Director of Cognitor, a consultancy and training company. He has 30 years of experience in high power and high voltage testing laboratories (design, construction, operation as test engineer and management), substations equipment design and testing. Along 25 years in CEPEL, the biggest South American testing laboratories he participated in all the phases of the design, construction and operation. He was the manager of 14 laboratories including high voltage, high power, Ex, materials and calibration. Managed also teams in generation with renewable and non-renewable sources. After leaving CEPEL, in the last 16 years, he acquired experience in the development of substations equipment. Sergio is the author of software SwitchgearDesign, a rare toll to simulate expensive tests made in testing labs, used for developing products and calculations for substations.


In the last 4 years Sergio is a consultant of the owners for the implantation of a new Brazilian set of testing labs including high power (2500 MVA), high voltage (550 kV), temperature rise tests (25kA) and others. KEMA is the international company giving support to this implementation. In IEC Sergio was, in the 90´s, the chairman of the IEC Technical Committee 32 (Fuses). Recently he was member of the WG which prepared IEC 62271-307. At CIGRE Sergio was a member of the WG A3.24 and co-author of the brochure CIGRE 602 / 2014 (internal arc). He is member of WG A3.36 (temperature rise) and WG B3-43 WG B3.43 (Low-cost substation solutions for Sub-Saharan Africa). Robert Adams2  Mr Robert Adams (Australia)

Robert Adams is the Network and Asset Policy Manager for ElectraNet the Transmission Operator in South Australia. He received the B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Australia in 1980.
Mr. Adams has been with ElectraNet since 1970 and held the positions of Test and Measurement Services Manager, Engineering Manager and Principal Strategist at this time. He is currently the Network and Asset Policy Manager. In these capacities he has worked in the areas of electromagnetic transient analysis, measurement and analysis of grounding phenomena, insulation coordination, lightning protection, acoustics, power quality and EMC in electric power systems. Mr Adams currently manages the development and application of network and asset policies and guidelines for the South Australian Transmission Systems. He also represents the Energy Networks Association of Australia on various Australian Standards Committees.


He is a member of IEEE and Cigre. He is also a member of Cigre WG C4.307 (Ferroresonance and Resonance in Transmission Systems) and a member of the JWGC4/C6.35/CIRED (Modeling and dynamic performance of inverter-based generation in power system transmission and distribution studies).He currently is a member of the Australian Standards Technical Committee TE-003 (EMC) and the Technical Committee EL-043 (Substations).


He is a fellow of the Oughtred Society which is dedicated to the preservation and history of slide rules and other calculating instruments.

Mr Nipun Arora (Australia)


Nipun Arora is a NGN Member, the next generation networks run by Cigre Australia, IEEE student member and also a Student Member of Engineers Australia. He has over 4 years of experience in the Electricity Transmission Distribution and Electronics Manufacturing industry along with pursuing full-time study at Monash University in Bachelor of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering and Commerce (Finance). During his career, Nipun has undertaken roles with Dynamic Ratings, the industry expert for monitoring and control solutions for electrical equipment including power transformers. His role as a part time student technical application and support engineer at Dynamic Ratings has exposed him to the power industry in terms of designing building and commisioning monitoring and control systems for major Australian Utilities and OEM’s and thus enabling them to make key strategic decisions with their assets and enfore preventive rather than reactive maintenance approach. This includes technical knowledge sharing, working on bushing monitoring and partial discharge solutions along with designing cooling control schemes for power transformers. Additionally, he has also been engaged in internal business process improvement using a common tool of business process re-engineering, Six Sigma framework to improve and automate testing process for electrical equipment manufactured by Dynamic Ratings and thus meet ISO 9001 standards in maintaining the quality of the manufacturing process. As a result, he has been exposed to product development (both hardware and software) and master programming languages such as Python and Linux to support the business process re-engineering.


Nipun has also worked for Apple Inc. primarily as a product specialist engaging primarily in sales and building innovative solutions for both personal and business customers.He has been awarded Top student in Monash's Faculty of Engineering and mentioned in Dean's Honor List two times for academic excellence and achieving consistent high distinction grades across his studies. As a NGN member, Nipun hopes to share his experience and learnings with other working groups and also build on his industry knowledge by contributing to different working groups.

Mr Tony McGrail

Tony McGrail is Doble Engineering Company’s Solutions Director for Asset Management and Monitoring Technology, providing condition, criticality and risk analysis for many organizations. Previously Tony spent over 10 years with National Grid in the UK and the US. In the UK he was a substation equipment specialist, with a focus on power transformers, circuit breakers and integrated condition monitoring. In the US he took on the role of substation and distribution asset manager, identifying risks and opportunities for investment in infrastructure.

Dr Alexandre Kraetge

Dr. Alexandre Kraetge studied High Voltage and Power Engineering at the Technical University of Berlin. In 2006 he was awarded his PhD from the Berlin University of Technology. His thesis topic was "Diagnosis of the Short Circuit Performance of Power Transformers."

Since 2006 Alex has worked in product management at OMICRON electronics GmbH, responsible for FRA and PD equipment, and is currently High Voltage Asset Diagnostics Manager. He is a member of CIGRE, IEC, IEEE, DKE, and is active in numerous working groups.

Kerry is a registered and chartered professional electrical engineer with 40 years’ experience in the industry and managers his own small consulting business. He has an extensive and diverse background in utility substation asset management, refurbishment, condition monitoring, maintenance and failure investigations. He is a member of Engineers Australia, The Asset Management Council, CIGRE and IEEE, and works with Australian Universities to support students and encourage research and innovation within the industry

“Niklas Gustavsson has 10 years experience at ABB in Sweden, mainly within research and development of tap-changers with focus on project management and type testing.

Holding a Master’s degree in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering from Linkoping University in Sweden, Niklas has managed several product development projects of tap-changers as well as coordinating and supervising type testing. Before joining the tap-changer business, Niklas spent 4 years at other parts of ABB as a consultant.

In his current position as Product Manager, Niklas is responsible for life cycle management on ABB’s tap-changer portfolio as well as working with end customer approvals and market launch activities.”

Pedro Esteban is the Director for Asia-Pacific for Merus Power Dynamics and based since 2012 in Singapore. Previously he has worked as development engineer and product manager at Nokian Capacitors in Finland, as sales manager at Areva T&D and Alstom Grid in Finland and in France and as business development manager at GE Grid Solutions in Singapore. He has more than 16 years of experience in the manufacture and delivery of Power Quality and Energy Efficiency projects worldwide.

He received the B.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Cantabria (Spain) in 1995 and the M.Sc. degree in Automation Engineering from Tampere University of Technology (Finland) in 1999. He completed his Executive MBA at Tampere University of Applied Sciences (Finland) in 2008 and in October 2016 completed his MBA Renewables degree at Beuth University of Applied Sciences (Germany) on the topic of “Selection and Application of Power Electronics and Internet-Enabled Solutions for Optimized Integration of Wind Power into the Smart Grid”.

Mr Gildo Listano

 

Gildo R. Listano is presently the Deputy Assistant Chief Technical Officer for Operations and Maintenance of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

 

He is a professional Electrical Engineer. He obtained his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering at Central Philippine University- Visayas and his Master’s in Business Administration at Philippine Christian University.

 

Before becoming the overall head of the Operations and Maintenance, he was also the Head of the Visayas Operations and Maintenance for four years.

 

Mr. Listano started his career as a Superintendent of the Technical Services of National Power Corporation.

 

Mr. Listano has 33 solid years of experience in the Electrical Engineering industry.

Wilmer M Suzara

Wilmer M. Suzara, Division Head, Civil Engineering Design Division, Engineering Design Department, Planning & Engineering

A structural designer and licensed civil engineer with over 25 years of professional experience in the power industry and currently connected with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). He is experienced in the civil design aspects of transmission lines and HV substations, including up to 500 kV substation primary equipment support and foundations.

Member of the Technical Working Group for Substation Risk Analysis and Disaster Resiliency Improvement Program of NGCP that recommended areas for improvement in the existing NGCP substation facilities to increase its absorptive capacity to withstand strong earthquakes and typhoons.

Part of the energy sector Study Team that undertook the "Energy Infrastructure Vulnerability Study" with Geoscience Australia (GA) aimed to enable a better understanding of the potential impacts associated with critical energy infrastructure damage.

Graduated with a degree of MSc(Eng) from the University of Leeds, England in 1994 major in Concrete Design and Construction. Got his BS Civil Engineering degree from the University of the Philippines-Diliman in 1984.

Martin M. Viray II has more than 9 years of experience in the System Operations specifically from network operations, which is the Dispatching function of NGCP as the System Operator. 

 

Currently taking part in the ongoing development of the 5minute interval dispatch implementation of the new Network Management System of the Market Operator as well as the revision of various procedures in preparation of the commercial operation of the new 5-minute dispatch implantation; the full implementation of the automation of Transmission Line Dispatch Information System for Plan Activity Notice for the Grid users; and, the development of guidelines for Luzon-Visayas HVDC of protocol.

Gobi Kannan Supramaniam

Gobi Kannan is Registered Professional Engineer & Chartered Electrical Engineer (IET UK) in Tenaga Nasional Berhad Transmission Division, Malaysia. He is also CIGRE A2 Workgroup Representative Member representing Malaysia National Committee. He is currently responsible for new technology assessment, diagnostics and equipment performance improvement for Transformer Unit in Engineering Department of TNB. In his previous positionGobi was responsible on the Asset Management and Maintenance Department. In this role he was responsible to perform technical assessment and evaluation on this new technology. Furthermore, he was the secretary for launching the ASEAN Bushing Guidebook and Gobi holds a Bachelors Electrical Engineering Degree from Western Michigan University and Masters of Power Engineering from Tenaga Nasional University

Mr Mohinder Pannu

Mohinder Pannu is Strategic Engineering Manager at Wilson Transformer Co, developing new product applications for the Power industry. He holds a B.Tech (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and an MBA from Monash Mt Eliza Business School, Melbourne. He has background experience in Power Transformer Design, Quality and Test. He is on Cigre Australian Panels AP2 and APD1.

Dr Thomas Smolka

Thomas studied electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen University in Germany and received a PhD in High Voltage Technology. He is a specialist in grid planning, grid integration of dispersed generation units based on renewable energies. After some years working for research institutes where he certified the first wind turbines in conformity to German grid codes he worked in asset management and innovation management for a DSO in Germany. In the last four years Thomas has been responsible for the business development of voltage regulation distribution transformers (VRDT) at MR. Thomas is an active member in Australian´s Cigré panels A2 and C6 and EESA.

Mr Antoine Mathieu

Antoine has obtained a Master in Science of Business Engineering at the UCL (Belgium), specializing in Environmental Sciences and Management, as well as a Master in Science of International Management at the CEMS (Community of European Management Schools). Having worked 4 yours for Elia the Belgian Transmission System Operator (TSO) as an internal consultant, Antoine has experience in a variety of domains touching upon the TSO business and the assets' life cycle. His experience ranges from leading projects to build an offshore grid and developing governance boards, to developing new methodologies to perform asset management activities (e.g. drones). Currently, Antoine works for Elia Grid International (EGI), the international partner of utilities around the world, counting on the expertise of the Elia Group. His position is asset management expert and in that extent has lead transformation projects abroad to assist EGI's partners in developing Asset Management practices and activities. Lately, Antoine has assisted National Grid Saudi Arabia in developing an Asset Manager and related activities

Mr Eduard Abbagu

 Eduard Abbagu is a Maintenance Engineer at the 1000MW Santa Rita, 500MW San Lorenzo, and 414 MW San Gabriel Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plants in the Philippines. He has been working with First Gen Corporation since 2015, with special focus on maintenance of Power Transformers, Turbogenerators, and High Voltage Transmission Lines.

He received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at University of Batangas and graduated with Latin Honor (Cum Laude). He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in energy engineering at University of the Philippines – Diliman, and also a part-time instructor at the Electrical Engineering Department of University of Batangas.

Mr Seokhoon Hong

Seokhoon Hong is the Regional Application Specialist on Partial Discharge for OMICRON in the Asia-Pacific Region. He has been working at OMICRON Korea and OMICRON Asia limited since 2011 as an application engineer with special focus on testing and diagnostic solutions for high voltage assets.


He studied and received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in electrical engineering at MyungJi University and HanYang University, respectively. Before joining OMICRON, Seokhoon worked as an electrical engineer in the power plant engineering department at POSCO E&C.
